Daya, the Grammy-winning artist behind world hits like The Chainsmokers’ “Do not Let Me Down” and LLENIUM and Gryffin’s “Really feel Good,” is again with a surprising new single, out now on Spinnin’ Information. Produced by Sebastian Furrer of Cazzette, “Do not Name” showcases Daya’s knack for weaving emotive storytelling with genre-bending precision.
A hanging departure from Daya’s earlier work, “Do not Name” sees the celebrated songstress diving into the realms of drum & bass whereas sustaining her signature pop attract. The tune’s ethereal synths and spritely rhythms create an enormous, expansive soundscape that contrasts superbly with the intimate, confined power that impressed its creation. Written in a small room in a Swedish constructing that when served as a jail, the tune looks like a heartfelt escape, Daya’s falsettos and aching vocals hovering over the manufacturing.
She delivers lyrics that talk to the ache and liberation of letting go. The observe’s climactic moments are underscored by refined but impactful drum & bass parts, including a dynamic depth that elevates its emotional weight.
“I used to be in Oslo the next week and couldn’t cease dancing alone in my lodge room to it,” Daya recollects, reflecting on the tune’s creation. “Strolling round enjoying it loud in my headphones taking a look at statues within the park on my birthday. It felt so apt for the liberty I felt in these moments of my life.”
